If your yard and house were dirty, you’d probably clean them, yet most people never think to purify and cleanse their bodies. But your body is the house for your mind and spirit, and detoxifying it is a very good idea.

There are a variety of symptoms, which point to a need for detoxification. Are you suffering from headaches? Body aches? What about a lack of energy? Do you get frequent colds or bad breath? Do you suffer from skin breakouts? These and a variety of other conditions and symptoms can all point the way toward the need for a detoxification program, though sometimes you can need detoxification long before symptoms express themselves. Either way, a program to cleanse and detoxify the body at least once or twice a year is a wise strategy to keep yourself well.
Basics of Detox
No doubt you’ve heard of detox—of flushing your system of harmful toxins so your body can perform at its best. When you participate in any sort of detoxification strategy you will get a body that functions better, allowing you to live better all around.

These types of natural processes and functions of cleaning, clearing, and cleansing, getting rid of waste and toxins from the body, are normally typically handled by organs like the liver, lower gastrointestinal tract and kidneys. Recently however, it has been suggested by practitioners and advocates alike that these processes are beneficial for health, well being and even longevity. They argue that they can be mastered and learned, as well as achieved by balanced living, intervention-type practices and techniques. Some of these might include processes like dialysis and (in a very limited number of cases) even chelation therapy.
There Are Several Types Of Detox Diets
- There are those in which you can only eat fruits and vegetables
- Those in which you can only eat “clean” foods
- Those in which you can only drink fruit and vegetable juice
- The most extreme type where you can only drink water
You can also do specialized cleanses designed specifically for certain areas of the body, for instance the liver, kidneys, blood or lungs. However, most detox diets just involve cleansing the entire body.
